Tear stains on a white SP

Postby Valsboyvin » Fri Feb 06, 2009 5:40 pm

Can anyone advise me what to do about tear stains on a white Standard, strangely enough only on one eye. I have read on the "tinternet" it may be a yeast infection, what's the best thing to do?
Many thanks for any advice you can give me.

If you should be attracted to or be advised to use a powder advertised on the internet for tear stain, I strongly advice AGAINST using it for various reasons.
Try Optrex eye wash(human version) on both eyes.
Feed some live yoghurt every day.
Clean both eyes everyday with lukewarm water, changing tissues or cotton wool for each eye.
Keep the skin under the eyes dry and apply some Sudocrem on the skin.
Clip the face close as frequently as convenient.

there is an ointment called GOLDEN EYE, I cant remember from which supplier I got it but it was one of the regulars that visit the Ch shows.
That works very well in prevention of runny eyes.

thanks for the advice, I shall try it. I did see an advert on the net and my instincts told me not to go with that one. I have also read that it can be caused by an alergy to wheat, and may be a yeast infection. On one eye only, I find that rather strange, as the hair around the whole eye is a shade of pink/brown but with no obvious running of the eye. I called it tear staining as that is the nearest description I can think of. Anyway, I shall try your suggestions and if no better talk to my vet. Thanks very much.

As it seems to be only in one eye, i would possibly think about having the eye drop colour test, to see if it is just a blocked tear duct, the Vet can do that.If the staining increases, then you will have to consider the Red yeast problem, which will include internal (food) and like the Marshalls said, feed a probiotic daily, follwing up with eye care they suggest.

I have found that diet can make tear stains worse too. We were on holiday and although I took some food with me, we couldn't get the same puppy food when we ran out of tins and had to make do with a different meat by the same maker - biscuits remained the same - I couldn'tbelieve that suddenly tear stains got worse (by that I mean darker). When we got back to the regular diet, the staining improved. I am not sure that his eyes got suddenly runnier, I think it was the secretions that were darker.
Maybe worth thinking about?
